Can you take a small aluminium case on board a plane?

I have a small aluminium case custom made for my robotics project, the thing is I want to pass it as hand luggage since the electronics are very fragile and expensive. Would I have any problems at the security desk? Thanks.

1. As long as it will fit into the size requirements it should be ok. Be prepared to show the contents at the screening gate.
