Aluminium deck on lawn mower, Can you weld it?
I have a mower with an aluminium deck, it has cracked. I was wondering if you can get it welded? Could I take it to a local fab shop? or does it need specialist equipment. Or should I just bin it?

- Yes it can be welded. Take it to an engineering shop that has TIG welding capabilty and a good welder to use it.
- Any welding shop with heli-arc high frequency equipment can weld it, providiing the welder has experience in this field. It's not hard nor expensive.
- Yes, it can be welded my the MIG or TIG method. It might be magnesium which can still be done but a glove box is needed to keeping it all from burning. RScott
- definately able to be done with tig welding but i think it can be braised too(brass filler/oxy acethylene flame)
- Yes it can be welded, but only by someone who knows what they are doing.
- It can be welded..If there is a little free space on top of the deck..find a small steel plate of some kind..simply drill a couple of holes..fasten the plate across the crack..with small bolts..(nuts to the top).. You could use part of a hinge or a doubled piece of plumbers hanging strap..anything to reinforce the deck..
- It can be welded, but I would recommend that you take everything off of it. Take it to a place that does a lot of jobs with aluminium as it takes a skilled welder to do it right. You may have a problem with warping if it is a large crack so you may be better off if you make a brace out of some sheet metal and use steel pop rivets to bind it back together. be careful about the length of the rivets if you use this method, even if the ends are not close to the blade, they could cause problems by causing grass to build up.
- Yes you can
