How do i cut an anodized aluminium pipe without warping/damaging the end of the pipe?

Do i use a pipe cutter? I need to cut a aluminium pipe (anodized) (it's a smoothbore barrel), so in the end, the end part where it was cut, has to be exactly the same diameter, like other parts of the pipe/barrel. can anyone help me? my friend's uncle is a metal machinist, is his help the best bet?

  1. If you cut it with a regular copper pipe cutter and ream it out after should be fine
  2. Cut it with a hacksaw using a fine tooth blade. After cutting, use a file to smooth all of the edges. A round file will clean out the inside of the pipe.
  3. Depending on the diameter of the pipe, you may be able to cut it on a miter saw. It will leave a rough, but square end. Use a file to dress the cut end. Hope this helps.
  4. Use a hacksaw in a wooden miter box or a chop saw, do not use a pipe/tubing cutter, it will tend to crimp in the end
  5. since your uncles friend is a machinist he can cut it on a lathe with no distortion. i too am a machinist.
