How can I make aluminium sliding windows slide easily?

My flat has sliding aluminium windows which are about 10 years old. Although I've cleaned the runners thoroughly, the windows are hard to slide and stick when I open or close them. Is any product, commercial or otherwise, that will stop this?

  1. I did this. Take the window out and rub wax on the runners on the aluminum window bottoms. It sure helped in my case. You can also try to wax the tracks if you can get at them. Just use wax like Parafin wax.
  2. I spray my clean tracks w/ sewing machine oil. It works for several months and then has to be repeated. You can try WD 40 but it doesn't last as long.
  3. bar soap
