How do I find a university course in structural steel design in the summer of 2010?

  1. You are cutting it CLOSE! If there is still time, any college that offers metallurgical engineering [sometimes metallurgical and materials engineering] would have courses in that subject. I found 106 schools with relevant majors at: http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/search/servlet/advsearchservlet?buttonPressed=viewResults&navigateTo=9&viewpage=1 It is up to you to start with the closest school to you and search their web pages for the summer schedule of classes. Good luck.
  2. The term "structural steel design", as used in Civil/Structural Engineering, has very little to do with metallurgy. It has to do with learning codes and strength/moment characteristics of standard structural steels, and learning how to chose the right cross-sections. There are academic classes, classes put on by the American Society of Civil Engineers, and there are commercial courses.
