How do I make my guitar sound heavy?
My friend gave me her J. Reynolds guitar, looks like a Fender pretty much. I have totally 0 music knowledge. I finally got a chord for the amp and plugged it in but I have no idea of how to make it sounds different. I'm aiming at making it sound Metal or Hard Rock at least. Right now it sounds pretty much the same as unplugged. Like Acoustic-ish. Remember: I have 0 musical knowledge so explain everything like if you were talking to a baby.

- Well. If your amp sounds like that then it seems you need a distortion pedal. That pedal makes your amp sound like that heavy sound you want. http://www.guitarcenter.com/Boss-DS-1-Distortion-Pedal-100086787-i1124466.gc One on those ^^ will make your guitar sound amazing. Or you can just get a amp that has distortion built in like this. http://www.guitarcenter.com/Line-6-Spider-IV-30-30W-1x12-Guitar-Combo-Amp-105482863-i1470459.gc Either one of those will do. So hope you get the sound you want soon and stay metal! \m/
- Depending on the amp you are using all you will have to do is turn one of the volume knobs down (if it has two, i believe its the master volume) and the turn the gain knob all the way up. In other words: Just turn the gain up and mess with the volume! What really sucks about this is you will get a lot of feedback (Fuzzy static sounds when you are not playing the guitar.) These knobs should be clearly labeled VOLUME or MASTER VOLUME, and GAIN.
- Drop D for heavy Rock DADGBE Drop E for Death metal E A D G B e Drop E tends to be a problem child and sounds like crap outside of death metal.
