How do I remove an aluminium tarnish stain from a light coloured carpet?

I had a rubber backed mat over the aluminium threshold strip at a doorway, the mat moved and the rubber backing has carried some tarnishing on to the light coloured room carpet so I now have a dark patchy long thin mark on the new carpet. The mat backing has a corresponding stain, and it was new so the aluminium strip is the culprit. Thanks

  1. Aluminum won't tarnish in that way. Tarnish is a broad term for a corrosion product (typically oxidized metal, like iron oxide, rust). When aluminum corrodes, it forms an oxide as well. However aluminum oxide when it forms is an extremely thin layer that is slightly darker in appearance than unoxidized aluminum and is very tightly adhered to the surface. You have carried something else onto the carpet. Normal carpet spot cleaners should be able to remove the dirt/stain,
  2. try brasso, i use it regularly as i am a industrial cleaner and it seems to work wonders, although with it been a light carpet id try it in a spot that will not be noticed just incase it leaves a mark(i am not to sure of the outcome as most offices have dark carpets)
