what is minimum percentage require of Al2O3 in bauxite to produce Aluminium?

Hello, i want to know that which grade of Bauxite is use to produce Aluminium? What is minimum percentage of Al2O3 require in Bauxite to produce aluminium? If someone can provide the full specification then highly appreciable. Thanks in advance.

  1. Don't know what the specs are but this is an economic question rather than a chemistry question. If you have a "rich" ore, the Al2O3 content will be high so you will get a "good" amount of Al per ton. If the ore is "poor", you will get less Al per ton. The economic difference is how much processing is required before the Al2O3 goes into a pot line. Rich ore does not require a lot of "benifaction" (cleaning up) prior to use. Another consideration is the amounts and types of different impurities mixed in with the bauxite in the ground. Some impurities will not be a big deal, others will be a problem because of how those impurities react in the conversion process. Research Hall and Herolt processes, pot lines, Al production for primary Al production. good luck
